ORDA incapable of running its own facilities

A follow up to my earlier post on the billion dollar "investment" by New York state into the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) facilities in the Adirondacks and Catskills.

After this gargantuan investment, The Times-Union now reports the staggering admission that ORDA does not have the in-house expertise to properly manage these facilities. This is not surprising since ORDA was just rapped by the state Department of Environmental Conservation for illegally expanding facilities at Mount Van Hoevenberg.

This is a staggering admission given that ORDA is responsible for massively expensive new facilities that hope to attract world class events - some are even hoping for a joint bid with Montreal or New York City to co-host another Winter Olympics - and is managed with an $87 million annual operating subsidy from the state.

At the very least, ORDA's board and management should be purged and replaced with people capable of properly running these very expensive venues.
